Boris Johnson surprised by Ukrainian President Zelenski’s visit to Kyiv – deadline

Boris Johnson is pictured in a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky after the UK Prime Minister arrived in Kiev on an unannounced visit.

The Ukrainian embassy in the United Kingdom shared a photo of the two in a conversation at a table in the country’s capital. The embassy captioned the photo with ‘Surprise’ and an eye-catching emoji.

Presidential aide Andrei Sibihao shared the photo on Facebook, writing, “Boris Johnson’s visit to Kiev has just begun with a Tate-a-Tate meeting with President Zelensky.”

The meeting was planned with the utmost secrecy, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom flew to Poland and reportedly traveled by train to Kiev overnight.

The pair have been in regular contact since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine six weeks ago. A few days after the start of the war, President Zelensky addressed the UK Political Chamber of the House of Commons in London.

The visit, seen as a strong sign of solidarity, comes on the same day as the search for 132 civilians shot dead in Ukraine and after Zelensky accused Russian leader Vladimir Putin of war crimes.
