Exclusive: The 2022 CMT Music Awards has added more actors to its inaugural broadcast on CBS.
Jason Aldian will perform with Brian Adams, while Jimmy Allen and Monica will join the previously announced Little Big Town. Walker Hayes and Thomas Ratt will be cruising alongside Riley Green from the Nashville Municipal Auditorium on April 11.
Mickey Gaiton and Black Pumas, Kelsey Ballerini, Ken Brown, Cody Johnson, Miranda Lambert, Maren Morris and Ryan Hard, Carly Pierce, Cole Swindle and Lynne Wilson and Keith Urban. Casey Musgraves will be presenting The Juds’ first television performance in 20 years, and Carrie Underwood will be performing a completely new performance from her ongoing show Reflection: The Las Vegas Residency’s Home Resorts World Theater.
Hosted by Kelsey Ballerini and Anthony Mackie, the CMT Music Awards is the only fan-voted country music awards ceremony. The show was previously aired on Cable CMT before CBS / Viacom moved to the broadcast net last summer. Originally set for April 3, the awards show was pushed by Grammy, which moved to April 3 after the epidemic postponed its original January date. This forced the CMT Awards to go on April 11 when it will be live from 8-11 pm live ET / delayed PT.
“CMT is one of the few live award shows whose ratings have increased, so yes, it has become more popular,” said John Hamlin of Switched On Entertainment, who co-produced the show with Margaret Comox of CMT and Leslie Frame and Jason Owen (Sandbox). “We are very aware that we need to be different from the crowd. You want to have your own perspective of the show. There are three main country music themed shows and they have three distinct personalities. We like that we are younger, more diverse in music. And we’re definitely more inclusive with the genre. “
Comeaux added, “Everyone is welcome to our party and we hope that our performances and the people they have played for represent a wide range of music-loving people.” We know our listeners like more than just country music, they like classic rock, urban music. And hit the hop. “
Underwood has a total of 23 CMT Music Award winners, with the artist winning overall. She’s ready for two more this year (best video of the year, collaborator) with Aldian “If I Don’t Love You”. The other five “Best Videos of the Year” nominees are Ken Brown (“One Mississippi”) and Kelsey Ballerini. Kenny Chesney (“Half My Town”), Luke Combs (“Forever After All”), Cody Johnson (“As Long As You Can’t”) and Cole Swindle and Lenny Wilson (“Never Say Never”).
