CNN + announces pop culture FLASHDocs unit with ‘Jussie Smollett’ – Deadline

CNN +, which launched on Tuesday, has created a new documentary unit to produce fast-changing documentaries.

The first from the CNN + FLASHDocs unit, Chicago vs. Juicy Smollett, The actor will look into the latest case, and will make his debut on Friday in the claim.

Katie Heinman, CNN’s vice president of program development, said in a statement that the unit would be “a way for CNN + to deal with stories that shape pop culture, as well as to be relevant to new reporting and short voices.” The smoldering documentary features the actor’s brother JoJo and Jockey, as well as former Chicago Police Super Eddie T. Johnson, Special Prosecutor Dan Webb, Cook County State Attorney Kim Fox and Smollett’s Defense Attorneys Tamara Walker and Heather Widdle are interviewed. Eric Johnson, Executive Producer, EP of CNN’s Program Development Project, and Emily Tagucci, Producer.

CNN + has been launched on Amazon Fire TV, Android phones and tablets, and Apple devices, but one of the streaming devices missing from its distribution is: Roku.

The new service is being promoted by WarnerMedia Cross. HBOmax posted a promotional link for CNN + on its interface on Wednesday, along with samples of some of its lifestyles and documentary programming. Plans are afoot to offer a subscription bundle later this year.
