Musical stars lined up in Las Vegas on Friday evening to pay their respects to Johnny Mitchell, the tireless artist and performer who was nominated as the Person of the Year at the 2022 Musiccare Gala.
Performers of the night included Beck, St. Vincent, Chaka Khan, Allison Russell, Billy Porter, John Legend, Herbie Hancock, John Batist, Leon Bridges, Mickey Gaiton, Pentatonics and Sarah Beryles.

She is being honored not only for her iconic music and songs, but also for her inspirational spirit and the inspiration she has brought to many singers / songwriters, “said Laura Segura, executive director of Musiccares.
The Canadian singer-songwriter was the focus of dinners and concerts, raising funds for the charity MusiCare’s program and relief efforts to help the music community in times of need.
Past honorees for the award include Aerosmith, Dolly Parton, Fleetwood Mac, Tom Petty, Lionel Richie, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Paul McCartney, Barbara Streisand and Neil Young.
Mitchell has recently enjoyed a new wave of praise through his song ‘Both Sides Now’. Mitchell was recorded by Judy Collins before making his own, the song was the focal point of the Oscar-winning film. CODAAnd Ricky Gervais also used it as the soundtrack to his emotional final scene in the third season of his Netflix mega-hit. Hereafter.
Now in her late seventies, Mitchell is still struggling with the same consciousness recognized by Laura Segura. In January of this year, he announced that he would remove his music from the Spotify streaming platform in solidarity with his friend Neil Young, who had requested to be removed from his music service due to the spread of misinformation about Jov Rogan’s popular Spotify podcast.
