Kanye West Weekend and Swedish House replaced by Mafia – Deadline

The Cochlela Music and Arts Festival announced today that Kanye West will be replaced as headliner by next weekend’s event The Weekend and the Swedish House Mafia. This year’s Cochlea runs April 15-17 and April 22-24

The weekend is a familiar amount for festival organizers. He was at the top of the bill in 2018.

The Swedish house mafia was already included in the 2022 lineup in an unusual position in its iconic handbill. The group’s moniker was often bolded as a headliner, but was set down before the words “return to the desert.” It has been speculated that the unusual location of the band was meant to provide a backup should West should be abandoned.

West threatened to pull out of this year’s Fest after demanding an apology from fellow headliner Billy Hilsa Travis Scott in early February for what West said was to confuse Scott.

That beef started when Hilsa stopped a show in Atlanta and asked his crew to get an inhaler from a fan who was suffering from shortness of breath in front of the stage. He said at the time, “I’m waiting for the people to get well before I continue,” which some thought was scary for Scott after 10 people died at his Astroworld festival in Houston in November. He did not apologize to Scott. “Didn’t say anything literally about Travis. Just helping a fan,” he said in response to criticism.

West, who made headlines in 2011, is said to have dropped the title of the 2020 festival – which was eventually postponed due to the epidemic – just days before announcing his participation, sources confirmed the diversity.
