Exclusive: 2021 Academy Nicole Fellow author Laura Cossan hired to adapt the women-driven comic book Mercy Sparks For MGM, The Picture Company and Assembled Media.
Created by Josh Blake, the title protagonist is a female monster who has been sent from hell to earth on a mission that she must complete while hiding in humans. On earth, compassion has an existential crisis and begins to see a gray area between good and evil. It forces him to choose his place in it and compromises his goals. The comic debuted ten years ago via Devil’s Do Publishing, and the studio saw IP as a franchise with an empowering female character at the center.
Jack Heller of the assembly is producing with Alex Heinman and Andrew Rona, partners of The Picture Company. Comic creator Blake is working as an EP with Scott Veltry of the Assembly. Heller and Assemble created the script and controlled the property rights, then partnered with The Picture Company.
