It was previously reported by New York Magazine The founders of “Black Lives Matter” used the grant to buy a $ 6 million home in California. Now, Patrice Coolers, one of the three founders who resigned last year, has responded to the report.
In a statement posted on social media, Patrice said, “Yesterday’s article in New York Magazine was a heinous abuse of a platform aimed at providing truthful information to the public. Journalism is supposed to reduce damage and inform our community. And with a proven and very public bias against other black leaders, it would be frustrating and unacceptable to allow an article full of misinformation, fabrications and provocative opinions. “
Patrice referred to the house mentioned in the piece and said it was purchased in 2020 and used as a “space where the Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation (BLMGNF) and the larger movement community could work, create content, organize meetings. And increase creativity. “
However, after resigning from his role in the organization, he mentioned that he could not talk about what the space is currently being used for. Patrice further shared that after the house was purchased, it was not publicly announced because “the property needs to be repaired and renovated.” However, he made it clear that he did not own the property and that he had never lived there.
“I have never misused funds, and it is painful for me that so many people have accepted that statement without the presence of real facts or information. Nevertheless, it will be clear soon after the release of the BLM 990s, ”he added.

As Before Shared reports came after a video of last year’s BLM leader Patrice Coolers, Alicia Garza and Melina Abdullah surfaced and showed women sitting outside the house. As a result, there have been allegations of buying houses with grants to BLM.
