Taraji p. Henson has historically been among those appointed to the Presidential Advisory Board of Black Colleges and Universities.
Also on the board was NBA star Chris Paul.
According to the White House, board members work to “enhance the capacity of HBCU to provide its students with the highest quality education and to continue working as an engine of opportunity.” Biden announced the re-launch of the HBCU Initiative last year.
Biden appointed Tony Allen and Glenda Glover as chairs and vice chairs of the board, and named Dietra Trent as executive director in February.

In 2018 Empire Series star Henson Boris launched the Lawrence Henson Foundation. It offers major scholarships in mental health for African-American students. It also offers mental health services in urban schools and works to reduce recidivism rates.
