The former Nirvana drummer was not present Saturday after the death of Fu Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins.
A Texas resident confirmed on March 25 that his band members had died at 50. “The Fu Fighters family is devastated by the tragic and untimely loss of our beloved Taylor Hawkins,” the group wrote in a Twitter statement at the time. “His musical spirit and contagious smile will live on with all of us forever. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his wife, children and family and urge them to consider their privacy with the utmost respect during this unimaginably difficult time. “
Hawkins, who is survived by his wife Alison Hawkins And the children, Oliver, Annabelle and Everley, were on tour with Fu Fighters in Bogot, Colombia, when he allegedly suffered chest pains. Although an ambulance was dispatched to the scene, Taylor Hawkins and the Cottell Riders musician were found unresponsive and pronounced dead.
Two days after his untimely death, Colombian authorities revealed in a statement that an initial toxicology test indicated the presence of 10 different substances in Hawkins’ system, including marijuana, tricyclic antidepressants, benzodiazepines and opioids. The investigation is still ongoing.
Following Hawkins’ death, the Fu Fighters canceled several of their scheduled events, including one at the 2022 Grammy Awards.
“It is with great sadness that the Fu Fighters confirmed the cancellation of all upcoming tour dates in light of the astonishing loss of our brother Taylor Hawkins,” the band said in a statement shared through their official Twitter account on March 29. “We share the sadness and frustration that we will not see each other as planned. Instead, let’s take this time to mourn, to draw close to our loved ones, and to appreciate all the music and memories we’ve put together.”
At the 2022 Grammy Awards, Fu Fighter was nominated for three awards: Best Rock Performance, Best Rock Song, and Best Rock Album. They have won in all three categories.
